Andy Warhol’s famous “Campbell’s Soup Cans” was a piece of art created in the 1960′s. This picture helps define the Pop culture era when media advertising and art began to change. This picture is so simple just 32 cans of soup and yet somehow it always struck me as interesting. This is not just abstract art, where the artist use their emotions to express their feelings. This piece of art is more than that to me. It almost catches my eye. Not because of whats in the piece or how beautiful it is. But it is possibly the way it is arranged. The pattern is so simple and sends messages that are pretty clear. This Campbell’s soup can is the way the artist expresses the view on ordinary culture thats current to the time he created it. Andy Warhol had positive views on pop culture. He created a whole new section in art. He used the concept of repetition, which had not been used much before him, to make the focus on separate can of soup rather than the whole picture. This picture for sure change my appreciation of art. I like simple things. Art like everything else can be viewed in many different ways. However Andy chose to emphasize the packaging for a reason. These reasons may not be so defined as to why he chose soup out of anything, but this was a way for our society to mature culturally.

I chose to write about was the longest running american cartoon series The Simpsons. This is a show that i have enjoyed watching for many years, and has been around longer than i have been alive. With over 20 seasons, The Simpson’s is a fictional animated series and shows aspects of American culture, TV and events that are occurring now in society. The family set in the cartoon is a middle class american family which consists of Homer Bart Lisa Marge and Maggie. I always enjoyed watching the show because it shows a normal dysfunctional family and how funny things can be when they are crazy. Homer Simpson is a television idol and he portrays the less than average lazy American stereotype who is always dealing with the irony of life. Being a devoted father and husband he is always involved in the family business. My favorite quote from him is “DOH!”, which he says when something goes wrong. The reason I chose to write about The Simpsons is because it is a well known TV show and is apart of the American visual culture. This show has brought up many other animated series about the middle class American family and has greatly influenced American animated television.
